I grew up in the 1970s. One of the programs we had in those days of network TV was the The Muppet Show (Yes that's right, network: No cable or internet back then; how did we ever survive?)
One of my favorite actors has always been Peter Sellers. So imagine my joy as a small child to see two of my favorite things together when Peter was the guest on The Muppet Show. I was so geeked!
I found a video of my favorite skit from that episode and I would like to now share it with you. Peter Sellers is in costume as an old country preacher singing about the evils of smoking, drinking and loose women. The title of the song is "Cigareets and whusky and wild, wild wimmen" and was written sometime in the early 20th century by a guy whose father had scolded him for indulging too heavily in these, um, pastimes. He did 'see the light' and turned himself around, which is why he is said to have written this song as testament. His father heard it and thought his son was mocking him! It is said it took years for his dad to speak to him again.
Anyway, here is the clip. I hope you find it as enjoyable as I do!
